Despite an early report that Lamar Odom’s best friend Jamie Sangouthai died of a heroin overdose, a new report by TMZ suggests that the 37-year-old did not OD on June 14 — rather, he succumbed to a flesh-eating disease.
His death was still drug-related, as a report by the LA County Coroner states Jamie’s cause of death as necrotizing fasciitis — a bacterial skin infection — likely caused by “chronic intravenous narcotism.”

The coroner states he went to the hospital after his arm became infected, but the disease quickly spread throughout his body.
Even though his death was ultimately found to be drug-related, Jamie’s friend and former manager Joseph Genovese tells Radar Online there was much more to Jamie than the partier he was portrayed as on Khloé & Lamar — a depiction that allegedly devastated Lamar’s late best friend.

“There was a lot of points when the show got edited. Jamie was the bad guy,” Joseph explains. “He was the drug addict. During that time, he was just hanging out, doing what a million people in L.A. do. He never did drugs on the couch all day.”
Joseph claims that producers told Lamar to confront Jamie about his excessive partying as a plot device — and he was devastated by the unjust reputation that followed.

“He was hurt by it,” Joseph tells Radar. “He said, ‘That’s not me. I’m not that guy.’”
Now, Joseph is determined to honor his late pal’s legacy.
“I want Jamie to be known for the many good qualities he had, and not what everyone saw on the show,” he says. “His mom and family deserve that.”
