While placing the blame on the 25-year-old reality star might seem easy, the truth is the mother-daughter duo have a strained relationship that stems all the way back to Farrah’s childhood.
Farrah has talked openly about the physical and emotional abuse she went through as a child. On a reunion special with Dr. Drew, the OG star got candid about how the abuse still affects her today.
“It’s so sad,” she said. “I don’t really feel like people should have to go through with that.”
And though Farrah tried to dismiss her her experience as “just a part of life,” Dr. Drew urged her to realize that what she has been through was tough.
“Well, stop it. Stop dismissing it,” he said to her. “It is sad. It’s sad to have been hurt as a child, right? Super sad.”
In the past, Farrah has claimed that her relationship with her parents, more specifically her mother, has improved over the years.
“My family and I have such a different dynamic now,” she said on Brandi Glanville’s podcast back in 2015. “We’ve talked through a lot of our abuse. Not everyone’s a perfect parent, but we do learn and we grow from that. I’m not trying to be harsh on my family because it does make them sad to think back about how they used to be and some of their choices.”
Though the reality star claims to be on better footing with her sometimes-estranged mother, from the looks of recent episodes of Teen Mom OG, she is continuing to distance herself from Debra.
On an episode of the MTV show that aired on May 8, Farrah and Debra’s relationship reached a new low when Farrah kicked her mother out of her house following daughter Sophia’s eighth birthday party. The whole altercation started when Debra showed her daughter pictures from Sophia’s birth — and Farrah did not respond well.
“Are you staying at a hotel? Because you’re not going to be at my house the whole time,” she said to her mother. “If you can’t respect the boundary and still hang out and be normal the week while you’re here, that’s your loss.”
