Taylor’s Speech! Selena’s Performance! What You Missed at the 2019 AMAs

It was quite the night at the American Music Awards — which took place on Sunday, November 24, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles — as Taylor Swift took home three big awards of the night, in addition to Shania Twain singing some of her best hits. Selena Gomez also took the stage live for the first time in two years.

Selena, 27, sang two of her songs on stage and while some people weren’t super happy with her performance, she definitely gave it her all and had Halsey and Taylor cheering her on from the audience.

Taylor, 29, got the Artist of the Decade award, but she didn’t touch upon any of her drama with Scooter Braun, she wasn’t afraid to get personal with her fans. “That performance was just … even more fun than I hoped it would be,” she said following her time on stage. “I cannot believe that it’s Carole King — it’s you, you who gave me this award.”

Taylor’s parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, were in the audience, and it seemed like they were so proud of their daughter. “I remember when I fell in love with music, it was right around the time I realized how marvelous it was that an artist could transcend so many different phases and changes in people’s lives. You taught me that is a responsibility,” she continued. “And, I guess, what I am trying to say is, any of the artists — or really anyone in this room — wants is to create something that will last, whatever it is in life. And the fact that this is an award that celebrates a decade of hard work and art and fun and memories … All that matters to me is the memories that I have had with you guys, with you the fans, over the years because we’ve had fun, incredible, exhilarating, extraordinary times together. May it continue.”

Lastly, Tay ended her message on a high note. “Thank you for being the reason why I am on this stage,” she said. “From the very first day of my career until tonight, I love you with all of my heart. Thank you for everything, thank you AMAs, just thank you. I am so lucky to get to do this.”

Meanwhile, Shania, 54, concluded the night with Taylor’s song “Shake It Off,” Drake’s hit “God’s Plan” and then went into her own tunes — “You’re Still the One,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
