She’s not above throwing a little shade! While promoting her new album on the MTV VMAs red carpet, Taylor Swift made a few subtle references to her past feuds with Kanye West and Scooter Braun. Though she kept the conversation positive, the “Lover” singer seemed to wink at her 2009 kerfuffle with the rapper when he stepped on stage and stole the mic from her as she chatted with MTV host Terrence J. After he assured her that she’s pretty much guaranteed to walk away with at least one Moonman, she was quick to shoot him down, remember that even when you do score a win, it’s not always your moment.

“You don’t know that,” Taylor, 29, told the host. “You never know what can happen on the show, as I have learned. We’re just going to probably figure out a way to celebrate, because it’s just fun.” When talk turned to her new album, Lover, the star continued to express how excited she is about the release. However, she did have one little dig to mention. “[Lover] is an album I’m so proud of,” she said. “I’ve never owned an album before.”

Though the 2019 VMAs are the 10-year anniversary of the beginning of Taylor and Kanye’s feud, we don’t expect that anyone will be snatching the mic from her tonight. And considering that she owns her own masters for Lover, no one will be snatching the credit for her album, either. Recently, the star opened up about the sale of her old masters (along with the rest of Big Machine Records) to Scooter, calling it her “worst-case scenario.”

“For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work,” she said in June. “I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. … Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.”
