It doesn’t get any easier. Love & Hip Hop star Safaree Samuels opened up about losing his uncle, who died in August after he was murdered in his own home. The rapper exclusively revealed to In Touch that he is still mourning the loss of his uncle, who he said was like a father to him.

“I’m glad we’re at a point now where it sunk in and it’s like, you know it happened. It’s unfortunate, but it was a little while ago like, so hard to talk about. Just the slightest any inclination of it would make me break down,” the 36-year-old told In Touch during a Facebook Live interview last month. “I’m glad I’m at a point where I’m just doing everything in his memory, just make him proud and I just feel like he’s watching over me, so I feel like that’s why great things have been happening to me within the short time he’s been gone.”

But it must be hard reliving the death of his uncle because made it into his storyline during this current season of Love & Hip Hop: New York. During last night’s episode, Safaree explained how much his Uncle Vincent Roper meant to him during a conversation with his on-screen love interest, Dreamdoll. “My father wasn’t in my life. My uncle took his place,” he told her. “He used to brag that I was his nephew and he was so proud of me.”

Vincent’s body was found in his Palmdale, CA home on August 25, 2017, after he had been stabbed to death, according to local news station NBC4. Neighbors grew concerned after the 64-year-old stopped responding to text messages two days prior. They went to check on him early that morning, and they called 911 after they found his front door unlocked and his belongings in disarray. Police are investigating his death as a homicide, and it is still ongoing.
