Oops? When the British royal family announced its newest family member on its website on May 8, it made one small error — the statement listed little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor as “the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.” But they’re actually his uncle Prince William and aunt Kate Middleton! Archie is, of course, the son and first child of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Eek.
On Wednesday, May 8, Meghan, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, showed off their little boy to the world for the first time. The royal family released the statement not long after, and rabid royal family fans quickly realized a major mistake was made. Since Meghan often faces harsh criticism for every little thing she does, it read a little bit shady to us, tbh.
It’s likely that whoever updates the royal family website had a template they used for Prince William and Kate’s kids ready, and someone overlooked the error. Still, it didn’t look great, and the typo was quickly remedied.

As much as the error may seem like a slight to some, it sounds like Meghan and Prince Harry aren’t letting much bother them as they bask in the glow of new parenthood. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took to social media to share the good news of their son’s arrival on May 6, and included a message which read: “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”
Just two days after they welcomed their first child, Meghan and Prince Harry introduced Queen Elizabeth, Doria Ragland and Prince Philip to their son. The precious photo of the meeting is one for the history books, and the proud parents shared it on social media along with the caption, “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.” Hopefully, everyone in the family is enjoying this time with baby Archie, no matter what shady shenanigans might be going down online regarding his birth.
