Shutting him out. Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, was not able to join in on the celebrations after she gave birth to her first child named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on Monday, May 6. “He’s as devastated as any grandfather would be who isn’t being given the chance to see his grandchild,” a source told Us Weekly on Wednesday, May 8.

After the former lighting director staged several paparazzi photos before the 37-year-old’s wedding to Prince Harry, 34, and then bailed on walking her down the aisle, she decided to not speak with him anymore.

However, Thomas reacted to the exciting news with kind words. “I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” he said in a statement to The Sun on May 6. “I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family, and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity and honor.”

He added, “God bless the child, and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen.”

Before the brunette beauty announced her pregnancy in October 2018, a source told Us Weekly that she “did not tell” her dad about her bun in the oven. “He found out the same time as the rest of the world,” they said.

Maybe the 74-year-old turned over a new leaf, since he previously bashed the royal family and his own daughter in numerous interviews. “What riles me is Meghan’s sense of superiority,” he told The Mail on Sunday in December 2018. “She’d be nothing without me. I made her the duchess she is today. Everything that Meghan is, I made her.”

Meanwhile, the new mama is focusing on her family. “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I mean, I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” she gushed on May 8.

The red-headed prince echoed a similar sentiment. “Yeah, it’s great. Parenting is amazing. It’s only been two and a half to three days, but we are just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious times with him as he slowly starts to grow up.”

Sorry, Thomas. Better luck next time.
