Way to go! Olivia Cruz has come a long way from the days she used to live in her mother’s basement. When she first captivated viewers on My 600-lb Life in 2014, Olivia weighed 578 pounds and relied heavily on others for support, but now she’s made her culinary dreams come true.
Olivia is currently working two chef’s jobs, according to a new report from Starcasm, so she stays pretty busy. The former reality star does often have to work long hours, but Olivia is always acknowledging how appreciative she is while updating friends and family on her Facebook page. Just last month, Olivia was all smiles while posing for a photo at one of the restaurants. When she appeared on the hit TLC show two years ago, she opened up about her passion to be in the kitchen.
“I’m so excited that my dreams are not just hopes for the future, now,” Olivia said during her 2016 episode. “They’re literally starting to happen.” Olivia revealed that her biggest dream “is to become a chef — to make food for other people.” When she was struggling with obesity, it was tough for her to be mobile and to get things done on her own, but now she’s back on her feet.
Olivia added, “I’m going back to pick back up where I left off. And I’m so excited about that. The future I hope for is so close now. This is not just my dream — it’s my independence.”
After undergoing two unsuccessful weight loss surgeries in the past, including a lap band, doctors in Houston agreed to perform a sleeve-type gastric bypass on Olivia. And since her time on the show, she’s reportedly managed to get down to around 200 pounds!
Just a few days ago, Olivia shared a throwback snap showing her trim figure, which was taken around the time her first follow-up episode aired in 2015. We’ll have to wait and see if Olivia gets her fourth official update when the next season of Where Are They Now? premieres in early 2019!
