Nearly two months after the shocking and mysterious death of his 19-year-old son, former Fox News Channel contributor Eric Bolling took to Twitter to reveal the cause. "Just received some tragic news from Coroner in Colorado," wrote the disgraced journalist on Oct. 26. "Eric Chase’s passing has been ruled an accidental overdose that included opioids."

"Adrienne and I thank you for your continued prayers and support," he continued. "We must fight against this national epidemic, too many innocent victims." Many fans originally speculated that Eric Chase may have overdosed, but TMZ reported that there weren’t any pills or drug paraphernalia found near his body, adding that there wasn’t a suicide note.

The whole situation is incredibly tragic. Just two hours after Eric finalized his departure deal with the controversial FNC network, the television personality had learned that his child had passed away in his off-campus apartment in Boulder, CO. The University of Colorado student had been found dead in his bed on the afternoon of Sept. 8 after suffering “emotional torture” related to his father’s scandal with Fox News. The elder Bolling was let go from the network after it was revealed that he had sent pictures of his genitalia to female colleagues.

Ironically, Eric Sr. made the decision to leave the network earlier than he had originally wanted to in no small part because of the “publicity and embarrassment” that his son was facing in the wake of the scandal. Eric Sr. took to Twitter shortly after learning of his only child’s death to confirm the sad news and thank fans for their outpouring of support.

“Adrienne and I are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Eric Chase last night. Details still unclear. Thoughts, prayers appreciated,” he wrote. “Authorities have informed us there is no sign of self harm at this point. Autopsy will be next week. Please respect our grieving period. We are overwhelmed by the love and support we have received. Adrienne and I thank you all and ask that you please keep us in your prayers.”

Despite his departure from the network, Fox News Channel also shared their condolences with Eric Chase’s parents. In a statement, they said, “We are very saddened to hear the passing of Eric Bolling’s son. Eric Chase was a wonderful young man and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Bolling family.”
