At 2:25 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2008, Heath Ledger was found naked and unconscious in his hotel room. After his masseuse found him and called 911, he was pronounced dead three hours later. He was only 28. Since his death, there have been many theories and rumors as to why an actor, at the prime of his career, would suddenly die.

MUST SEE: 6 Dead Celebrities Believed to Be Alive — And The Craziest Theories About Their “Deaths”

Heath’s death was ruled an accidental drug overdose due to a lethal cocktail of prescription painkillers found in his system. Fans initially thought he was suicidal after breaking up with ex-fiancée Michelle Williams, while others thought it had something to do with playing the Joker in The Dark Knight. Could it be possible the actor was even murdered? Watch the video below to see some of the wildest theories about the causes of his death.

Perhaps the reason fans are so unsettled by Heath’s death is the mystery over how his body was found. The actor’s masseuse found him first, but instead of immediately calling 911, she instead called Mary-Kate Olsentwice. Mary-Kate sent her bodyguard over to Heath’s house. Once Heath’s masseuse, housekeeper, and Mary-Kate’s bodyguard assessed the situation, then 911 was called. This little fact about his death sent many skeptics and theorists on the Internet running wild with accusations, from blaming Mary-Kate to questioning the masseuse.

Mary-Kate’s lawyer has maintained that she had nothing to do with it, but the situation still seems rather mysterious, especially since the masseuse changed her story a few times, initially saying she called Mary-Kate two times when actually it was four times. It was also later revealed she wasn’t a licensed therapist.

But whatever theory fans want to run with as to the cause of Heath’s death, there are still many questions that will, unfortunately, remain a mystery.
