Farrah Fawcett’s Son Redmond O’Neal Reportedly Charged With Attempted Murder
The late Farrah Fawcett’s only son, Redmond O’Neal, was reportedly charged with attempted murder, along with of slew of other serious charges stemming from his arrest last month after he allegedly shoplifted from a convenience store with a knife in his hand in Santa Monica.
Redmond was arrested on May 8 because he was a suspect in an armed robbery of a 7-Eleven, but it turns out that it was just one of the incidents that Redmond was involved in before his arrest, Us Weekly reported. Redmond had allegedly went on a violent robbery spree where he attacked five men in Venice Beach and Palms. Two of the five men sustained serious injuries, and one suffered “significant and serious stab wounds and cuts to his face, neck and upper body.”
In the weeks since his arrrest, LAPD detectives launched an investigation and their findings were presented to the District Attorney’s Office on Friday, June 8. According to a press release obtained by Us Weekly, Redmond was also charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of battery, one count of criminal threats, and one count of brandishing a knife. Redmond pleaded not guilty to the robbery on May 11, but he is reportedly still in custody.
“The suspect entered the store with a knife and approached the clerk and demanded money from the register,” the LAPD revealed at the time of Redmond’s arrest. “The suspect fled store on foot… Officers found the knife and cash in [Redmond’s] possession.” According to People, the clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of cash before he fled the store during the very early morning hours.
Redmond has struggled with substance abuse in the past, and has also paid a few visits to rehab. “I love him, but I have never seen a more scary side of addiction,” his half-sister, Tatum O’Neal, told People of her half-brother in 2015. “He’s got addiction problems so bad that it breaks my heart. Nobody knows what to do with Redmond. From what I’ve seen, there is no way he’s going to survive.”
This also isn’t the first time Redmond has been in trouble with the law. He was previously arrested 10 years ago for a DUI and drug possession. Three years later, he was arrested again for heroin possession. In 2015, he was sentenced to three years in prison for violating his probation, however, according to Radar Online, he was released two years earlier than expected.
Farrah previously welcomed the 33-year-old in 1985 with husband Ryan O’Neal, 77. The two were married twice, once from 1979 to 1997 and again from 2001 until Farrah’s 2009 death from anal cancer. Ryan is also a dad to daughter Tatum, 54, and son Griffin O’Neal, 53, with his first wife, Joanna Moore, who he was married to from 1963 until 1967. He additionally has a son, Patrick O’Neal, 50, with Leigh Taylor-Young, whom he was married to from 1967 until 1973.
Ryan’s two older children have also struggled with substance abuse, and when asked if he felt he was a “bad parent” on Today in 2012, he replied, “Looks like it, doesn’t it? Sure looks like it. I suppose I was.” Ryan added, “I wasn’t trained. These are not children, anymore. They have to take hold of their own existences.”
Meanwhile, back in 2011, Ryan revealed that Redmond “never recovered from the loss of his mother.” So sad…
