Meant to be! Chrissy Teigen shocked fans when she announced she’s pregnant with baby No. 3 in a scene from husband John Legend‘s “Wild” music video on Thursday, August 13. But many fans were wondering how she could be expecting when she recently underwent breast implant removal surgery in June, and the model took to Twitter to explain that her pregnancy was an unplanned but happy surprise.
“I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative,” the 34-year-old wrote on Friday, August 14. She went on to explain that a few weeks after her surgery, she took a pregnancy test as she’s been taking pregnancy tests every month since she was in her 20s, in the hopes that she might get a positive result.
“So the morning of John’s album release, he wakes up at 3 a.m. to do Good Morning America. I woke up with him and was like man, should take my monthly test to be disappointed … I was not disappointed. But I was scared s–tless. Was pretty positive you shouldn’t get your boobs out while pregnant? Pretty sure,” she continued. “So we prayed to the boob surgery gods that everything would be okay. Went to every appointment terrified. Even without the surgery, I didn’t think I could get pregnant naturally anyway. So the odds just felt … bad.”
A fan responded to Chrissy, mentioning that they couldn’t imagine how John, 41, could do a TV appearance after such exciting news. “I know! I laid awake the entire time, just holding my belly and apologizing for all it had been through,” Chrissy responded.
She went on to share more details about her pregnancy, revealing daughter Luna, 4 is “very, very excited” to have a new sibling while son Miles, 2, is “not so much.” “Jealous!” she added about her toddler’s reaction to welcoming a new sibling.
The Cravings author admitted she and the “All of Me” singer never thought they would have a baby while in quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic and they joked about couples who conceived while in lockdown. When another fan asked how she revealed the big news to John, Chrissy responded, “I always had this big plan or picture of how I’d do it. Screaming, crying. But it wasn’t that at all! Just shock. Just handed it to him with my mouth open.”
Chrissy, who has been open about her struggle with fertility and conceived her first two children via in vitro fertilization (IVF), shared a message of hope for women who struggle with conceiving naturally. “But what they say so often can be true,” she wrote. “When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you.”
