Swedish DJ and musician Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 28. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the music industry, with his friends coming forward to express their sadness and share their memories of the talented artist — including Avicii's ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg.
"'Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me," she wrote on Instagram. "I wish I could have lived up to them. For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again. I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. 'Wake me up when it’s all over,' because I don’t want it to be real #ripavicii." Other fellow DJs also spoke out to remember the "Levels" star, including DJ Pauly D, Marshmello, and Zedd, who wrote, "No words can describe the sadness I’m feeling right now, hearing about Avicii passing away… Thoughts go out to his family and friends."
"Such sad news to hear about Avicii passing. Too young and way too soon. My condolences go out to his family, friends and fans," Dua Lipa tweeted. Former One Direction singer Liam Payne shared his feelings with fans on the social media platform as well. "Oh my god truly devastated for Avicii very very sad news way to young … what a talent he was. rest in peace," he said.
Avicii was found dead on Friday, April 20, with his publicist confirming the death. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii," his publicist shared in a statement. "He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."
A few days after his death, Avicii's family released the following statement: "We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother. We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs. Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world. We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way." His cause of death has yet to be revealed. RIP.
