There are few celebrity deaths that devastated people as much as Patrick Swayze’s.
The beloved Dirty Dancing actor passed away on Sept. 14, 2009 — less than two years after he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. And now, the beloved REELZ show Autopsy: The Last Hours Of… is revisiting his harrowing final days — and In Touch has a sneak peek of this weekend’s episode.
In the clip, experts take us back to January 2009 — nine months before the actor’s death at age 57 — when he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai in LA and diagnosed with pneumonia.
“Cancer patients are at high-risk of developing infections because the toxic chemotherapy drugs destroy the good cells as well as the bad, weakening the immune system,” one doctor explains in the clip. “I can see from Patrick’s records that he suffered from numerous infections throughout his battle with cancer. However, pneumonia is one of the worst serious because it is associated with high mortality rate in advanced cancer patience.”
Learn more about Patrick’s final days in the clip below — and for more, tune in to Autopsy: The Last Hours Of… on REELZ Saturday at 9 p.m. EST.
