Amanda Knox, who was famously convicted and then acquitted of murder, is now facing another hardship: The death of her beloved cat. The now 31-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday, Dec. 26, to reveal that Mr. Screams was killed after being hit by a car on Christmas Eve.

“Our baby, Mr. Screams, was hit by a car and died the night of Christmas Eve,” she captioned a shot with her kitty. “We buried his body on Christmas morning. @emcee_carbon and I are utterly heartbroken. He was the smartest, funniest, sweetest, cuddliest, most talkative and wonderful cat. We feel so lucky to have had him our lives.” She continued, “He helped bring us together. I wish I could hold him one last time. He was our baby, our little boy.”

People quickly began commenting on the tribute, with many offering their condolences. “I am so sorry to hear this. Pets are part of the family just like people. Take care 💕.” one person wrote. Another added, “I’m sorry to hear about your loss. May you find comfort in what he did for you.” While a third chimed in, “Our hearts go out to you. This is such a powerful portrait… I know you will treasure it along with the beautiful memories…”

Just last month, Amanda revealed she got engaged to Christopher Robinson, whom she had been dating for three years. The proposal took place at their home in Seattle and was alien-themed. It started with Amanda going outside after she heard weird noises and found what looked like a meteorite with blue light glowing in the backyard.

After she asked what was happening, Amanda found a tablet of their love story.

“I had been thinking about this, but it’s already happened in the future,” Chris said in the video. “It’s happening now. I don’t have a ring, but I do have a big rock. Will you stay with me until the last star in the galaxy burns out and even after that? Amanda Marie Knox, will you marry me?” As they kissed, futuristic sci-fi music played in the background.

Welp, that sounds slightly terrifying, TBH. Though having a cat named Mr. Screams is even more disturbing.
