What a way to head into the new year! On Dec. 29, Cameron Dallas — who has over 21 million Instagram followers and his own show on Netflix — was arrested in Aspen, CO, according to a news release from the Aspen Police Department. After punching a man outside of his hotel early in the morning, Cam was charged with felony second-degree assault with intent to cause bodily injury. He was taken to Pitkin County Jail, and was later released after posting $5,000 bond. Now, he’s opening up about why he broke someone’s nose.

“Unfortunately, sometimes in life, you find yourself in a situation where you have to protect yourself and the people you care about,” he wrote in the caption of an Instagram featuring his (still swoon-worthy) mugshot. “Have a safe and happy new year, 2019 is going to be an amazing one.” Clearly, he’s not letting the situation affect his positive attitude!

Cameron didn’t elaborate further about what happened, but he did share some snaps from Dec. 31, and he’s still clearly having a blast. He took to Instagram Stories to show off his yummy-looking meals and celebrated New Year’s Eve by hitting the slopes at the ski resort.

This isn’t the first time Cameron has gotten in trouble with the law. Back in 2015, Cameron did a YouTube video with his friends Kian Lawley and Jc Caylen where they played Paint Twister. Before long, the police showed up while they were filming, and after a brief back and forth, arrested Cameron for felony vandalism. Later, it was reported that police were called for a noise complaint, and again when the boys threw a paint can out of the window and nearly hit someone below. Hopefully he leaves that drama in 2018!
