It’s over! Following reports that Selena Gomez, 25, and ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, 23, spent time together over the weekend — no pun intended — multiple sources confirmed to People earlier this week that she and The Weeknd, 27, have split. “She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” said an insider. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.” They added that while Selena “always made an effort” to attend his shows, “that played a part in them getting distant.”

Now, TMZ is reporting that The Weeknd was the one who did the breaking up. Multiple sources confirmed to the publication that their relationship “had been fizzling out since summer.” They two had also rarely seen each other because of his touring schedule and her shooting schedule, and they started talking less on the phone.

The news comes just after The Weeknd — whose real name is Abel Tesfaye — unfollowed several of Selena’s friends and family members on social media including her mother, her assistant Theresa Mingus, her best friend/kidney donor Francia Raisa, and the parents of her godson Priscilla DeLeon and Jay Cosme. On Sunday, Oct. 29, Selena and Justin hit up church together and grabbed breakfast — something The Weeknd probably wasn’t super down for. “It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months,” said the insider.

Although the insider added that Selena and Justin aren’t back together, she’s clearly turning to her ex for comfort. “Due to the fact that Selena and Justin had a relationship that lasted half a decade, she is very vulnerable to rebounding with him, even if she knows in her mind that it is not the right thing to do,” Dr. Danielle Forshee, LLC Doctor of Psychology, told In Touch exclusively. “When somebody comes out of a relationship, they are always emotionally vulnerable to reverting back to old habits (old relationships) or engaging in some other kind of behavior where they can feel the ‘high’ that can distract him/her from the negative thoughts or feelings that accompany a breakup.”

justin bieber visits selena gomez

Justin Bieber arrives at a restaurant in West Hollywood after visiting Selena Gomez on Oct. 29, 2017.

She added, “Because Selena’s brain circuitry has become used to associating certain traits, smells, sounds, feelings and relationship experiences with Justin, her brain will drive her toward him to get those needs met quickly. Essentially, Selena’s brain associates Justin with an emotional ‘high.’ Because her memories are recalling positive feelings, she will likely reach out to him or want to spend time with him to give her those feelings of passion, excitement, and happiness.”

It hasn’t been the easiest year for the “Fetish” singer, who revealed in September the reason she quietly stepped back from her career over the summer was because she was recovering from a kidney transplant. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” she said on The Today Show.

So are they over for good? The insider dished that “it’s over for now, but they’re still in touch.” Sigh, sounds like Sel found herself in the same old love once again.
