Unfortunately, it seems like things aren’t going too well for Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown lately. The good news, though, is that he’s ready to get things back on track — and he’s heading to rehab to do that. This isn’t his first stint, either. Back in the spring of 2016, he went to rehab for the first time, and now he’s heading back. The reality star opened up to People about his battle with substance abuse and his decision to get help once again.

“I struggle with substance abuse, and after a year of ups and downs, I decided to return to treatment,” Matt shared. “I’m really grateful for everyone’s support and hope to have my life back on track soon.” About his first rehab stay, he continued, “I could see myself spiraling… I was more withdrawn. I was slower. Things didn’t excite me the way they used to.”

We can imagine how this past year would’ve been particularly difficult for Matt. Staying sober takes constant work, and when there’s a lot of other heavy issues going on in your life, it must be even harder. And over this past year, the reality star’s definitely had a lot to handle between regularly moving and dealing with mom Ami Brown‘s cancer diagnosis and fight

Luckily, his mom is doing better and is even in remission — and now she’s ready to support him the way that he supported her. “It’s hard not having one of my babies here with us,” Ami told People. “He was so strong for me, and I want to be strong for him.”

Matt’s dad Billy is dedicated to helping and being there for him, too. “We miss him terribly, but we’d rather lose him from home for a little while than lose him forever,” he said. “We just want him to do what he needs to do to get better.”

We agree — and we hope that Matt finds the help and support that he needs to get his life back to where he wants it to be.
