She wasn’t the cause of their split, but it looks like Kaitlynn Carter may have been the reason behind Liam Hemsworth‘s decision to take his breakup with Miley Cyrus to the courts. Following reports that the Australian actor “hit the roof” after seeing the photos of his ex kissing her new rumored fling, allegedly leading him to file for divorce, sources say his family was even more upset. Ultimately, it was because of them that the star decided to file for divorce so “quickly.” He filed the paperwork less than two weeks after the couple confirmed they’d called it quits.

“He thought they could work it out, but all those pictures of her and Kaitlynn ended that,” a source told Us Weekly on August 28. “Liam comes from a very conservative family, and his family was freaked out by it.” The insider explained that it was the women’s lack of discretion that spurred the decision. Miley, 26, “being so open about her relationship with Kaitlynn,” 30, pushed Liam, 29, over the edge.

“It was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” a source exclusively told In Touch earlier in August. “[Liam] doesn’t want any part of it.” Meanwhile, Kaitlynn’s ex Brody Jenner doesn’t mind seeing the women together — or the media attention they’re getting. “It’s good publicity for him,” an insider revealed exclusively to In Touch. “He’s still friends with [both of them].”

And as for Miley and Kaitlynn, they can’t be bothered with what people think. Well, other than the singer feeling the need to put any cheating rumors to rest. “I can accept that the life I’ve chosen means I must live completely open and transparent with my fans who I love, and the public, 100 percent of the time,” she wrote on Twitter on August 22. “What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. … I can admit to a lot of things, but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. … You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking, foul mouthed hillbilly, but I am not a liar.”
