The Duggar family has had a camera crew around them since 2008, but with their laundry list of strict rules, many fans are wondering — do the Duggars watch TV? It’s a valid question, TBH. Believe it or not, the reality star family, who burst onto the TLC scene with their show 17 Kids and Counting, banned television in their household prior to having children.

In an interview with the Huffington Post in 2011, patriarch Jim Bob said, “I grew up watching TV, but when we got married a doctor friend of ours encouraged us not to have a pet or a TV the first year of marriage. So we did that. For the first year we lived on love,” Jim Bob explained. “And after that someone gave us a TV and for the first three weeks we were both glued to it. Communications dropped off, we weren’t talking as much, and we couldn’t believe the content on TV we didn’t think was appropriate. This is detrimental to our marriage. We prayed about it and felt we had to pull it out of our house, which we did. And I would say that is one of the best things we have done for our family.” Um, no pets either?!

Megyn Kelly interviews Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar for The Kelly File.

Don’t worry, they are allowed to watch DVDs… from the 1960s. “We do watch DVDs, The Andy Griffith Show” Jim Bob added. “We are very selective about what we watch. We actually don’t watch broadcast TV.”

Michelle Duggar even has a favorite actor. Kirk Cameron — a born-again Christian most known for his stint on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains, not that the Duggars have ever seen it. “I really appreciate what he stands for. He says whenever he plays roles and whatever movie he will not kiss another woman besides his wife,” Michelle told the publication. “Whenever they have to do that they have figured it out that they will bring his wife in and he will kiss his wife and I’m so impressed. That’s one of my kids’ favorite actors.”

Well, I guess we won’t be able to chat about the Bachelor finale with any of their 19 kids! Or dance. Or wear a bathing suit. Or hang out with unwed mothers. Boy, they sound like a fun bunch to hang out with, huh?
