Congrats! Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan Beck, revealed they welcomed identical twin boys on Friday, November 8 — a year and a half after their 19-month-old daughter, Emeline Grier, tragically drowned in a neighbor’s pool. “They finally arrived! They had us waiting and waiting and waiting, driving Morgan crazy,” the 42-year-old athlete said during a call-in to the Today show on Tuesday, November 12. “She carried them full term.”

The Olympic skier revealed that the “birth story” was actually quite hectic. “None of the midwives actually made it on time,” he explained. “They started coming over and by the time they got there, me and my mom were both holding the babies. Luckily, my mom was a midwife, but she hadn’t delivered babies in 20-plus years, and she’d never delivered twins.” Despite the sticky situation, Bode revealed that everything turned out OK. “We were both pretty relaxed and pretty casual, but we were certainly not qualified to be doing that unassisted home delivery of twins!” he said.

In August, the couple — who share Easton Vaughn Rek, 13 months, and Nash Skan, 4, in addition to Bode’s two kids from a previous relationship: Samuel Bode, 6, and Neesyn Dacey, 11 — announced that they were expanding their brood. “From the beginning of our relationship, [Bode] always said, ‘I want identical twin boys, born on my birthday,’” the 32-year-old said. “And this time, when we found out I was pregnant, I said, ‘Do you think it’s twins this time?’ And he said, ‘No.’ Sure enough, identical twin boys.”

The blonde beauty wrote a lengthy Instagram post about what she was going through at the time. “Losing a child while pregnant was the most confusing experience of my life,” she wrote. “The conflict of emotions from what was pure joy turned to guilt and terror overnight. How could I love this baby the way I loved Emmy? Was it OK to love this baby the way I loved Emmy? It felt like by loving my son, I was trying to replace her. The fear of birthing my son and what that meant … a monumental step forward … proof that time continued without her when all I wanted was for time to stop.”

Even though the duo experienced heartbreak when they lost their daughter, Morgan concluded the message by explaining how excited they were to add more kiddos to their family. “Now, I can actually say with joy and excitement that we are expecting identical twin boys,” she said. “From the day I met my husband, he has always said he wanted twin boys born on his birthday. We are due on the lucky day/angel number of 11/11 which is not far off from @millerbode birthday of 10/12. From the beginning of this pregnancy, we knew Emmy had her hands in this miracle somehow.”

In June 2018, Emeline drowned in a pool in California. The pair welcomed son Easton four months later in October 2018. Ever since the accident occurred, the parents have become advocates for water safety and want their kids to start learning how to swim at a young age. “Being a parent is inherently scary,” Bode said in April. “You’re worried about your food or your screen time or whatever, but the number one thing that can take your child, where none of that stuff is relevant, is drowning.”
