A few weeks after his parents pushed him to work with a sober coach, Matt Brown has apparently refused that too. After leaving rehab early in October, his family was more than a little concerned for his future sobriety — and it seems they have even more cause to worry now. According to a new Radar Online report, the Alaskan Bush People star has fled his family’s watchful eye for California, and Billy and Ami Brown are “terrified” by the news. A source close to the Browns spoke to the outlet, revealing that Matt didn’t even give his relatives a heads’ up.

“The family is all incredibly worried right now because Matt didn’t even tell anyone he was leaving,” the source told Radar. “He just up and left even though he was advised to stay put and focus on his sobriety.” According to Radar, no one even knew where he was until a fan’s photo surfaced showing the star posing with Discovery Channel viewers in Palm Desert, CA.

Per past reports, Matt has consistently clashed with his family over how to handle his treatment. “Matt doesn’t really want to have a sober coach anymore but his father is insistent on it!” a friend said in November. “He thinks that going to meetings and working with a therapist is enough. But his family wants him to have someone there with him 24/7 to make sure he stays clean.”

The disagreement also left a rift between him and his siblings. “His brothers and sisters are having a hard time because they would always go to Matt for advice because he was the big brother,” the source on Nov. 30. “But the tables have turned now and they are just trying to do everything that they can to make sure he stays on the right track.”

Now, the family feels that there simply isn’t anything that they can do. After he left treatment earlier, refused a sober coach’s support, and has now left his family behind for California, they’re feeling powerless to help. “All they can do now is pray,” the source shared.
