‘Supernatural’ Actor Jared Padalecki Arrested for Assault and Public Intoxication at Texas Bar
Yikes. Supernatural star Jared Padalecki was arrested outside of a lounge called Stereotype in Austin, Texas, during the early morning hours on Sunday, October 27, In Touch has confirmed. The 37-year-old was booked on two misdemeanor counts of assault and one count of public intoxication.
Padalecki allegedly hit a bartender in the face inside the bar, an eyewitness claimed to TMZ. Afterward, in a clip obtained by the website, the CW star was spotted on the street wrapping his arms around a man — who was trying to calm Padalecki down — and put him in a headlock, but then Padalecki let go and raised his arms in the air. Later on, Padalecki was spotted leaning on the hood of a cop car as police came to talk to him. The actor appeared drunk as he couldn’t keep his balance. The outlet also reported that Padalecki also allegedly struck the general manager in the face as well. Padalecki — who is a frequent visitor to the ’90s-themed bar and was there when it opened in September 2018 for the first time — was restrained by the police after the incident.
The Gilmore Girls alum got candid about his mental health issues in 2015. “I have had so much outrageous support, more support than I would ever have even expected,” he told E! News at the time. “But there have been a few nameless, faceless people online who will say, ‘Why don’t you go cry into your money’ or something like that. Just mean stuff. People think, ‘Well, if you’re rich, then you won’t ever have anxiety or depression. If you have your own TV show, then everything goes away.’ But it’s simply not the case. And that’s where I go back to trying to remain empathetic to those who might not currently be empathetic.”
He continued, “Everyone is going through their own battle, and I try to remind myself of that when I feel judged or insulted. And I’m on a TV show, so it’s not like I’m not used to being judged or criticized or critiqued. It comes with the territory. But if I can somehow turn that on its side and turn that into a positive thing for those who have felt abused or made fun of and don’t have the outlets and friendships or support that I have then this is my way of saying, ‘I have your back.’”
Meanwhile, the Texas native and his costar Jensen Ackles revealed in March that their hit show Supernatural would be ending after season 15. Padalecki — who shares three children: Thomas, 7, Austin, 5, and Odette 2, with his wife, Genevieve Cortese — admitted he is going to miss coming to work every day. “We really have become a family,” he told Us Weekly. “We’ve known them for 15 years. We’ve seen births and deaths and divorces and marriages. I mean, I met my wife in season 4, and we have three kids! So much has happened. I feel such a deep connection with everybody. It’s gonna be rough.”
A rep for Padalecki did not immediately respond to In Touch’s request for comment.
