Jenna is an unhappily married woman in the deep south with dreams for something better. Her husband is very controlling and abusive to her, leaving her trapped in a bad situation. She works at a diner as a waitress where she makes creative and inventive pies inspired by various situations in her life. Upon finding out that she’s pregnant, she decides to use her impending motherhood as motivation to better her life in a last attempt at true happiness.

This comedy-drama film was written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, whose supporting role was her last before her untimely death. It also shows the gorgeous Kerri Russel and a young Nathan Fillion in his pre-Castle days. It was nominated for Best Screenplay and has since been re-adapted as stage musicals, even earning Broadway showings. It’s definitely one of the best Hulu movies to check out when it’s available on October 1 for viewing!

Every emperor penguin has a “heart song” that they sing to attract a mate. If a male’s song falls in harmony with a female’s song, they become mates and start a family together. However, cute and innocent little Mumble has a problem; he can’t sing a smooth note. But, despite his inability to sing, he can tap dance and has a passion for it. This attracts the attention of Gloria, a fellow penguin who’s considered one of the best singers, who is one of the few to be kind to him. 

This 2006 animated film warmed the hearts of children and adults alike, even bringing awareness to overfishing and the safety of animals. Taking place in a dystopian future where America is now Panem and sectioned into 12 districts, children from these districts (in the ages of 12-18) have their names put into a draw where one boy and girl are randomly chosen. These selected children are forced to compete in a game where only one is allowed to survive. Katniss volunteers to take the place of her little sister when she’s chosen, along with Peeta, who has a shared emotional memory with her. A ‘90s comedy that was rated #43 on Bravo’s Funniest Movies list, this movie stars Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss as Bob, an irritating but well-meaning patient, and Dr. Leo Marvin, an egotistical psychotherapist. The film received positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike and was a box office success. It even got a 94% “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes! 

Bob serves as an annoying psychotherapist-patient to Leo but is well-meaning and friendly. He ends up joining Leo on his family vacation, winning over the favor of everyone except Leo himself, who goes to comedically dramatic lengths to get rid of him. The oblivious Bob dismisses all of these attempts as Leo simply being a good doctor, leading to hilarious situations. She travels back to her hometown to convince her estranged husband, Jake, to give her a divorce. However, he won’t give in that easily and her time in her hometown forces her to relive her past, meet up with the family she left behind, and confront the real reason why she left in the first place.

The story takes place in the 22nd century where highly advanced robots can help people with various aspects of life. A couple, whose son is in suspended animation due to having a disease, bring home such a robot to help them cope. The robot, David, develops a deep, childlike love for his “mother” Monica and longs to become a “real boy” so she can also love him. A very emotional film from start to finish, if you’re in need of a good cry, this is one of the best Hulu movies to get the tears flowing.
