“I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move,” she tells ‘People.’ “I thought I was dying.”
She believes a tick bit her earlier last year. While recuperating, her mother moved in to help and her husband, Chad Kroeger, did everything to cater to Avril’s needs — but ultimately, they could only do so much.

“There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand,” she explains. “It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”
While she’s currently doing well (she says she’s “80-percent better”’), she credits the love and support from her fans for helping her get through the difficult time.

“This was a wake-up call,” Avril says. “I really just want to enjoy life from here on out.”
