Such a progressive bunch! Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Brad Falchuk, rang in the new year on a family vacation in Maldives. How’s this for a plot twist, though: The actress’ ex-husband, Chris Martin, and his girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, were there, too. It’s mind-boggling, we know.

Whereas most people would avoid seeing their former flame and their new boo together at all costs, a source has revealed exclusively to In Touch that the foursome’s little getaway actually strengthened Gwen, 46, and Dakota’s relationship. “They all [went] snorkeling together, [took] yacht trips around the islands, and enjoyed family dinners,” the source dished.

That said, what’s a vacation in Maldives without a little romance? Well, as it turns out, there was no shortage of that either. The source noted: “Gwyn also gave Chris and Dakota some alone time so that they could enjoy the tropical paradise as a couple.” The Fifty Shades actress, 29, must have been very appreciative of that, because the source also revealed that Dakota and Gwyneth managed to bond as well. “Their New Year’s vacation certainly brought Gwyn and Dakota closer together.”

Who knows, then? Perhaps by this time next year, Dakota will have her very own Christmas stocking in Gwyneth’s home. After all, Chris, 41, still does. That’s right, the once-married A-listers are basically the most amicable exes around. The blonde beauty posted a photo of her mantle to Instagram on Wednesday, Dec. 19, and the snap featured the stockings of Brad, 47, her daughter, Apple, 14, Moses, 12, and Chris.

In a previous interview, Gwyneth admitted that the Coldplay frontman still has a room in her house for when she’s away. “We are still doing it in our own way,” she said. Well, that certainly explains the stocking and the couples vacation, for that matter. Hey! If it works for them and their kids, that’s all that matters. If nothing else, they’ve become the epitome of a modern family.
