American Idol’s first finale episode almost got off to a rocky start when rumors that Lauren Alaina was not going to be able to perform because she lost her voice ran rampant across the internet. Luckily, there was a doctor on hand to — at least for the moment — cure her swollen vocal chords.
Lauren muscled her way through three songs, including the last song, which she dedicated to her mother. During her final performance, she shared a hug with her mom, who whispered something in her daughter’s ear. Lauren later told reporters via sign language that her mom said, “I love you.” Idol judge Steven Tyler said he was confident Lauren would perform well despite her horse voice. “She didn’t sing that much tonight. She sang two songs, three songs and tomorrow she’ll nail it,” he said.
As for whether or not the Aerosmith singer will get up onstage tomorrow remains a mystery, sort of. When blatantly asked, the rocker remained mum. But when asked if there might be a guitar on stage for him tomorrow, Steven said, “There will, there will be one there for me to grab if I choose to grab it.”
We’ll take that as a yes!
