‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Amber Portwood Arrested for Domestic Battery
Uh oh. Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood was arrested for domestic battery on July 5, In Touch can confirm. The 29-year old reality TV star was taken into custody in Indiana on felony charges. She is currently in a processing center, according to Radar Online, who was the first to break the news.
“She’s not done with processing,” a clerk at the Initial Hearting Court in Indianapolis told the outlet. “She’s at intake right now.”
This is not the first time Portwood has gotten herself into legal trouble regarding a domestic violence incident. In 2010, she was charged with domestic battery after she was seen striking her ex, Gary Shirley, in front of their daughter, Leah, on an episode of Teen Mom.
The reality TV personality has struggled with substance abuse problems and anger management issues in the past. Portwood agreed to a five-year jail sentence in lieu of court-ordered drug rehab in 2012, Us Weekly reported. She served 17 months in prison on drug charges before she was released in 2013.
Portwood has been open about her struggles with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder on Teen Mom OG. She spoke about those issues on the show during a therapy session with her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, and said, “I also feel the bipolar. If I wake up in the morning, I know damn well if that’s going to be, I’m cleaning the damn house all day or I’m going to be in bed.”
During the same session, the Teen Mom franchise star admitted, “I haven’t really been doing very well when it comes to mood swings. Any little thing, tiny, tiny thing, will enrage me.”
When it comes to her boyfriend specifically, Portwood revealed, “I’d do anything to be normal. I love this man more than anything and he treats me really well, and I feel like I’m just a bad person sometimes.” What’s next for Portwood and Glennon after the reality star’s arrest?
