Get ready, true crime lovers! The new Hulu miniseries The Act follows the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who murdered her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in cold blood on June 14, 2015. Joey King, 19, and Patricia Arquette, 50, star as the mother-daughter duo, and the trailer will give you chills. Dee Dee and Gypsy made headlines when it was revealed that they lived in a small house in Springfield, Missouri, and basically blocked themselves from the outside world. Gypsy allegedly was diagnosed with a lot of different things — asthma, muscular dystrophy and epilepsy — to name a few, so her mom had her homeschooled. They seemed like the best of friends — going to doctor appointments together, traveling to Disney World for charity trips and they even shared a Facebook profile. But one day, Dee Dee’s Facebook page posted an update that would change their lives forever.

“That B—ch is dead!” it read. People were very confused and thought maybe the page had been hacked. Then, a new comment was posted. “I f—king slashed that fat pig and raped her sweet innocent daughter … her scream was soooo f—king loud LOL,” it said.

Investigators put the pieces together and figured out that Gypsy and her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, had murdered Dee Dee. Another shocking revelation was that Gypsy was perfectly healthy and that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, where someone exaggerates a child’s symptoms.

In June 2016, Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was given a 10-year sentence. Her boyfriend was found guilty of first-degree murder but is awaiting sentencing.

Even though the TV show dealt with some heavy issues, Joey was thankful for the opportunity. “To the cast and crew of The Act,” she wrote on Instagram. “My heart aches as I type this from my seat on the plane. This show took every ounce of my energy and focus and I’m so grateful for the experience and everyone involved. We premiere on March 20th, and I’m so nervous and excited for everyone to see it. Never felt so vulnerable about a performance and I’m so excited to feel that.”
