Farrah Abraham Says Sophia Is Bullied Over Dad Derek Underwood’s Death
This is devastating. Teen Mom OG fans know that Farrah Abraham lost Derek Underwood — the father of her daughter, Sophia — in a car accident on Dec. 28, 2008. The mother-of-one always remembers her late love on social media, but this year’s tribute was different, as she also revealed the eight-year-old has been bullied over the fact that her father isn’t around.
“This past year, Sophia was bullied for not having a father at her old public school. I thought, ‘Why would any child not understand that’s out of ones control and no one would ask for that?’ In a world full of ignorance and wrongdoing, I’m happy to say my daughter knows her truth and has strength in that beyond the ignorance,” she wrote. Farrah also addressed how Derek’s “highly-favored charisma passed on to Sophia.”
The adult entertainer also called out her mother, Debra Danielsen, and MTV for how they’ve handled the sensitive subject. “This year, I saw an employer, long-time production, and my mother try to use my loss as their gain for heartache — and to act as though they cared about my health and supported the struggles [because of] the loss of Derek I go through,” she continued.
Farrah exclusively opened up to In Touch last year about how it’s been living and coping with the loss of her ex — and how it impacts Sophia. Fans of the MTV reality series know his death sadly occurred before the youngster was born. “The 28th comes up every year for me — and I went through depression and a hard time and Sophia, as a child, has gone through her own [struggle, asking], ‘What happened to my dad?’ And having her own loss,” she shared.
Our thoughts are with Derek’s loved ones on this difficult day. We’re glad the mother-daughter duo has each other to lean on.
