Though Ben Affleck has publicly denied having an affair with his kids' nanny Christine Ouzounian, the actor allegedly came clean during an emotional therapy session and apologized to his estranged wife Jennifer Garner for how the scandal played out.
An insider tells Radar Online, “Ben took responsibility for his relationship with their former nanny, Christine Ouzounian.”
The source adds, “The relationship had started after the couple had already split up, but Jen was humiliated when the relationship went public.”
While their relationship was eventually romantic, an insider claims they started out as close friends — and after acting as each other's confidantes, their relationship escalated to the next level.
“Christine often complained to Ben that Jen was being overly critical of her work with their three kids,” the source explains.

Last week, Jen and Ben attended a two-hour marriage counseling session, but no reconciliation is in the works, as the mother-of-three reportedly "finally feels that she deserves to be happy without him."
The source insists the Oscar-winning actor's apology was genuine, explaining, “Ben was truly sorry when he apologized to Jen, and she thought it was a very good step moving forward.”
The ex-couple is working on their relationship to co-parent their three kids — nine-year-old Violet, six-year-old Seraphina and three-year-old Samuel.
