On Sept. 13, Hachette Books revealed that Mayte Garcia, 42, whose four-year marriage to Prince ended in 2000, is writing The Most Beautiful, an “intimate memoir” about her relationship with the late singer and it’s being released next April. Now, one of his friends tell In Touch this isn’t what he would have wanted.

“While Mayte isn’t going to slam Prince’s character, she isn’t going to hold back, either,” says an insider. “It’s a fine line, but she says she still loves Prince and wants to honor his legacy and be truthful.”

She’ll also open up about her miscarriage and the soul-crushing death of their son, losses she says ultimately destroyed their marriage. “That’s something Prince never really addressed publicly,” says author Alan Light, who worked with Prince to write Let’s Go Crazy: Prince and the Making of Purple Rain.

Says Prince’s friend: “Prince would not want information about his and Mayte’s son out there. That was really sacred to him.”

“Mayte is absolutely doing this for money,” Prince’s friend explains. “He would be mad about this book.”
