After a week of speculation, the drama between Beyoncé’s husband, Jay Z, and sister, Solange Knowles, is finally being put to rest after they broke their silence about the situation.
“At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all, we are family,” a statement, released to the Associated Press on behalf of all parties involved, reads.
“We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

But before everyone closes the door on the situation for good, celebrities ought to grab a pen and take notes. There’s a lot to be learned from how they handled the situation.
Still, they aren’t the first family to air their dirty laundry, and we seriously doubt they’ll be the last. So hopefully everyone can learn a thing or two from how they handled the situation.
Don’t Pretend It Didn’t Happen: It may have taken days, but they did eventually release a statement. Ignoring the situation—by smiling at a basketball game as if you were oblivious to what was going on—is only going to lead to more rumors, theories and speculation.
Don’t Point Fingers: One of the most important elements of their statement was when it was made clear that “Jay and Solange assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred.” This avoids anyone taking blame for the situation.
Don’t Become Cryptic and Weird: Talking to the press and releasing a statement is a good way to get your point across. Deleting and/or sharing pictures on Instagram—and therefore inviting fans to speculate on the meaning—is not.
Don’t Act Like It’s a Hollywood Thing: “At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different.” Sure, sometimes, the issue in these situations relates to fame, but the underlying problem often comes back to family. It could happen to anyone—and everyone can understand family tension.
Do Create a United Front: Had anyone released a statement on his/her own, it would have created the illusion there are still “sides” to be taken and would only have added fuel to the fire.
Do Keep the Details to Yourselves: While the statement made it clear that Jay and Solange both accepted responsibility for what happened, they never explained what exactly they were accepting responsibility for, therefore focusing on moving forward.
Do Dispel Rumors If Necessary: Even though they didn’t go into details about what happened, the statement did explain “reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false.” This helps fix Solange’s tarnished reputation without lending itself to any theories or rumors about the cause of the fight in particular.
Do Put It Behind You: “[Jay and Solange] both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family… We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.” The joint statement is probably the last time we’ll hear of the “elevator fight” from Jay, Bey and Solange—for good reason.
