In the wake of the tragic death of YouTuber Desmond Amofah, a.k.a. Etika, fans and fellow vloggers alike are mourning his passing. After the NYPD confirmed the news on Twitter, those who love the star took to the social media site on Tuesday, June 25, to share their grief for him and reactions to the news. Gamers like PewDiePie, DawkoFaZe Censor and Shofu all spoke out, and they were far from alone. It seems the 29-year-old vlogger was loved by many and will be missed by more.

“Hard to grasp that he’s actually gone, left us way too soon. You will continue to live on in our hearts. Rest in peace @Etika,” said PewDiePie. “Wish I coulda talked to you man,” wrote Nordan Shat, a.k.a. FaZe Rain. “RIP Etika,” added Dawko. “Heartbroken. I really hope you are at peace now.” Juan DeBiedma, a.k.a. Hungrybox, continued, “I’m speechless, this is actually wild. RIP Etika. … This is tragic.” He also brought up an important message about the alleged suicide: “I honestly feel that influencer mental health is something that we need to address more often.”

According to the New York Post, Etika was reported missing on Wednesday, June 19, nearly a week before his body was found. The star sparked concern when he allegedly shared a video where he claimed he was planning to commit suicide, though the YouTube clip has since been deleted. Mental health was an issue he’d touched on before. In a May 2019 upload where the 29-year-old played Minecraft “in real life,” he reassured fans he was not deleting his channel after some copyright issues. The star had deleted previous channels because of “personal reasons,” but in an on-screen annotation, he promised, “No more ‘mental breakdowns.’ … No more ‘spiritual revelations.'”

After a week of worrying, the star’s friends and family finally have answers. Unfortunately, facing those answers may be harder than it sounds. “Damn. My body heat just shot through the roof. Never had someone I was cool with commit suicide,” wrote ANTi. “Rest easy, @Etika.” Phil Visu, a.k.a. EE, added, “RIP Etika. This one hurts,” and Keemstar continued, “RIP homie @Etika.”

Even those who didn’t know Etika personally are mourning his loss. “Watched the video @Etika made before he committed suicide. Horrible news. I didn’t know the guy but just from what I’ve seen he seems to be such a great light. RIP,” said FaZe Censor. “There’s just no way … F–k,” mourned Shofu. “Nobody wanted to see these words. Rest In Peace, Etika, you will never be forgotten.” Sharing a list of resources for those who might need help, Jacksepticeye continued, “RIP Etika. Really sad news to hear. Mental health is no joke and if you’re going through something please reach out to people that can help. There will always be someone who will listen.”
