Disney Channel star Cameron Boyce passed away on Saturday, July 6, at just 20 years old. The actor’s family confirmed his death in a statement to Us Weekly, and revealed that he died in his sleep after suffering a seizure due to an “ongoing medical condition.”

“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” a spokesperson told Us Weekly on behalf of the Boyce family. “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”

Fans were shocked to learn about Cameron’s death, especially because he had never had disclosed his health issues. He was best known for his role as Luke Ross in the beloved Disney Channel TV series Jessie, as well as his role as Carlos in the Disney Channel film franchise, Descendants. After the news of Cameron’s death, fans took to social media to share their condolences and pay tribute to him.

“Even though I didn’t know you or never met you, I’ve watched every show/movie you were in growing up as a kid and I still did til this day and I still can’t get over the fact that you’re gone. Rest in peace Cameron Boyce😔💓,” one heartbroken fan wrote, and another tweeted, “Cameron Boyce was one of the greatest Disney actors, never caused any trouble and did a lot for his community. It hits so close to home for me my heart aches. My prayers go out to his family and friends and everyone suffering from this loss. :(”

Along with his work in TV and film, Cameron also was very dedicated in his charity work. He was honored at the 2018 Thirst Gala, sponsored by the nonprofit organization Thirst Project, which aims to bring safe drinking water to communities around the world where it is not immediately available. Cameron earned the Pioneering Spirit Award for the work he did to raise $30,000 to build wells for clean drinking water in Swaziland.
