A few days after former Playboy model Stephanie Adams jumped to her death with her seven-year-old son, her estranged husband is breaking his silence. According to Charles Nicolai‘s lawyer, the NYC-based chiropractor is grieving the loss of his little boy and his ex-wife, despite their reportedly bitter custody battle.

“Charles is distraught over the loss of his beloved son Vincent, who was the center of his life and for Stephanie whom he cared for deeply,” a statement to People magazine read. “We request privacy during this difficult time for Charles and his family as they mourn and remember the memories of Vincent and Stephanie.”

On Friday, May 18, Stephanie jumped off the 25th floor of the Gotham Hotel in Manhattan with her son. Their bodies were discovered on the second-floor landing of the hotel after an individual heard two loud noises. Since the tragedy, more details have surfaced from the incident law enforcement have labeled a murder-suicide. The mother and child died of multiple blunt impact injuries, with Vincent suffering injuries to the head, neck, torso and limbs, a spokesperson for the city’s medical examiner explained.

It was also reported that Stephanie, 47, pushed her son out the window first before jumping herself. No suicide note was found inside her hotel room. At the time of her death, Stephanie was involved in a “tough custody battle” according to her attorney, who claims she wanted to take her son on a summer vacation to Europe but a judge ruled against taking her son out of the country. However, he did not believe that would cause Stephanie to kill herself and her son.

“When she left here she was very positive,” Raoul Felder explained to People. “Something must’ve taken a nosedive in her psyche.” Our thoughts are with Stephanie, Vincent and her family during this difficult time.
