Gone too soon. Cameron Boyce tragically passed away at only 20 years old on July 6, and now his official cause of death has been revealed. The Disney star had a sudden, unexpected passing due to his epilepsy, according to a new report released by the Los Angeles County coroner.

The paperwork also notes how Cameron did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system, aside from Keppra, a medication used to treat epilepsy. As we previously reported, Cameron was sadly found unresponsive in his home located in North Hollywood on July 6. He was pronounced dead at the scene later that day at 2:35 p.m. On July 8, an autopsy was performed on the young star, and the cause and manner of death were deferred until additional testing was completed.

A spokesperson for the Boyce family confirmed the news of his passing to Us Weekly. “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” the statement read. “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him.”

Cameron’s mother, Libby, later released a heartfelt statement via Instagram on July 22, mourning the loss of her beloved son. “He is my compass ❤️,” she captioned a black and white photo of the two of them. Fans immediately started sending messages of support in the comment section.

The late actor was featured in several notable shows and movies, including Descendants, the Disney TV series Jessie and the films Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. Shortly after his death, Cameron’s costars, friends, family and fans all paid tribute to his legacy. Rest in peace.
