Singer Denise Matthews — also known as “Vanity,” the front woman of the group Vanity 6 — has died. She was 57-years-old.
While a spokesperson for Washington Hospital Healthcare System in Fremont, Calif., where she was at the time of her death, confirmed her passing, the circumstances that led to her death are unclear at this time.

During the height of her career in the ‘80s, she was known as a protégé of Prince.
According to Rolling Stone, the 57-year-old “Purple Rain” singer memorialized his late friend upon learning of her death with a performance of “Little Red Corvette.”
“I just found out a little while ago that someone dear to us has passed away,” he told his audience in Melbourne. “So I’m going to dedicate this song to her.”
