Heath Ledger has died at the age of 28. The body of the Brokeback Mountain star was discovered in the bed of a Broome Street, New York, apartment by a housekeeper at 3:26 p.m. ET today. According to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, Heath had an appointment for a massage. When the masseuse arrived, the housekeeper went to notify Heath and that's when she found his body reportedly surrounded by pills. "We are investigating the possibility of an overdose," said Browne. In a November 4, 2007 interview with The New York Times, Ledger discussed his upcoming role in the Batman sequel entitled The Dark Knight. "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," he said. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." The reporter wrote that Heath took an Ambien, which failed to work, and then took a second one and fell into a stupor, "only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing." He leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, with former fiancée, Michelle Williams. "Having a child changes every aspect of your life — for the better, of course. The sacrifices are large, but what you get in return is even bigger than the sacrifices you make. I feel, in a sense, ready to die because you are living on in your child," he said in a November interview. The Australia native had recently wrapped filming on his role as the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight.
