Our thoughts are with the friends, fans, and loved ones of Hugh Hefner. The founder of Playboy and former Girls Next Door reality star has passed away at the age of 91. The iconic outlet which he founded confirmed his passing on social media

In announcing his death, his son Cooper — who works as Playboy Entertprise’s Chief Creative Officer — honored his father’s legacy. In a statement, he said, “My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom. He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history. He will be greatly missed by many, including his wife Crystal, my sister Christie and my brothers David and Marston, and all of us at Playboy Enterprises.”

While a cause of death has yet to be revealed, in recent months, Cooper was open about how difficult it became to watch his father’s health decline as he got older. “It’s tough to watch him struggle,” the 26-year-old told the The Hollywood Reporter. “But I’m happy it’s physical and not mental.”

In addition to his impressive legacy and mark on society, Hugh is survived by his wife, Crystal, and his four children, Cooper, Christie, Marston, and David. Our thoughts remain with them at this time. Rest in peace, Hef.
