It’s a little bit of a mystery. A lot of 90 Day Fiancé fans are interested in who Avery Mills was before she married her husband, Omar Albakkaur, and before she converted to Islam. “Christianity never really spoke to me,” she explained. “One day at work I started talking to a friend that was Muslim. I just wanted to learn more about Islam. And it made a lot of sense to me.”

“I just felt something missing in my life,” she said. “I really felt like I needed something that can keep me in line, lead me on the right path, lead me to who I want to be, and that’s what I found in Islam.”

Before Omar, Avery had never even dated a Muslim man. Her friend showed her a Muslim dating app, and the rest was history.

Initially, when they began talking, Omar’s profile said he was from America. But he was really over in Syria, and with the travel ban keeping most Syrians out of the United States, that made their possible relationship even more challenging.

But Avery was already “hooked,” as she put it during her introduction on the series. She decided to head to Lebanon and meet Omar, and when they met, they grasped hands in the airport — the first time Omar had ever held hands with a woman.

Their shared Instagram account makes it clear that this couple has come far since they first met. Although a lot of people in their lives were unsure of the match, they seem very happy.

But what was Avery like before she converted to Islam? What did she look like before she started covering her hair?

The fact is, there just aren’t any photos out there in the public eye of Avery before she started wearing a hijab. She converted at a fairly young age, so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Besides, her faith obviously means a lot to her. Even if there were photos online before Avery decided to begin covering her hair, she’s probably gotten rid of them, and might not appreciate people hunting them down.

On September 10, Avery shared on Instagram that she was “proud to say the hijab never came off no matter how much I thought I was gonna have a heat stroke” over the summer. Good for her!

We hope she continues to grow in her faith and in her relationship and that both are more fulfilling to her than how she felt before she converted. It was clearly a very important step in her life!
