Who Is Austin Forsyth? Joy-Anna Duggar’s Husband Has a Reality TV Past

The Duggar family may live most of their lives as open books, but the same isn’t necessarily true for their spouses. And who can blame them? A little privacy goes a long way. That said, the longer the (former) Duggar girls have been married, the more we’ve gotten to know their significant others, whether they like it or not (looking at you, Ben Seewald, Derick Dillard, and Jeremy Vuolo). And now that Joy-Anna is married — and recently gave birth! — we’re also getting to know her man: Austin Forsyth.

Austin, who’s 24, has been around the Duggar family for a while now. In fact, he and Joy-Anna have known each other since they were toddlers. Cue the “awws!” When he asked her to enter a courtship, Austin took Joy-Anna to a gorgeous outdoor spot where they’ve hung out together with friends in the past. “I picked this spot because the last time we were here together was Aug. 1, 2015,” he said in a TLC video announcing their courtship. “It was a whole group of us that came up and were just hanging out and it was really late at night. The stars were just gorgeous, so for me, that was really special,” Joy-Anna added.

Despite the fact that we don’t know as much about him as the other Duggar men, we do know that Counting On actually isn’t his first go at reality TV. In 2009, Austin and his parents were a host family on season one of World’s Strictest Parents. (Fun!) In the episode, the Forsyths took in two troubled teens, and we got to see just how serious Austin’s parents can be. Like the Duggars, Austin’s family makes sure all of the kids wear modest clothing and take a vow not to have sex until marriage. Plus, they can’t have their first kiss until their wedding day. Other rules Austin’s parents enforced were not closing bedroom doors and waking up at 6:30 a.m. every morning to work in the family camp, Fort Rock Christian Family Camp and Retreat Center.

These days, however, the new dad has ditched his duties at camp for a pilot’s license. Fans of the show learned on last night’s premiere episode of Counting On that Austin has an awesome job, and we had no idea! “I’m a pilot,” Austin said while hang gliding on his honeymoon in Switzerland, “But I think hang gliding is gonna be a bit different. It’s just you and the elements.” So there you have it!

Joy-Anna’s hubby isn’t too active on social media, but from the few things he’s posted on Instagram, it’s certain he loves two things: His wife and his son, Gideon! In his latest photo, Austin — who now shares an account with Joy — posted a snap with his growing family. “We are so blessed by the arrival of our son, Gideon Martyn Forsyth!” they wrote in the caption. “He was born on 02/23/18 @ 3:39pm, weighing 10lbs. 3oz. and was 22 inches long!”

No doubt, Joy-Anna and Austin will have a long, happy marriage together. And from the looks of things, they’re already off to a really good start. Congrats, guys!
