Wendy Williams’ Son Is Her ‘Top Priority’ Right Now: ‘He Is the Source of Her Strength’
She’s finally letting go of her marriage after filing for divorce, but Wendy Williams is still putting her family first. Though she’s separating from her husband, Kevin Hunter, a source tells In Touch that she’s making her son, Kevin Hunter, Jr., her “top priority.” The TV show host’s family has been supportive of her as she’s fighting to get sober again, and her son was one of the reasons she was trying so hard. Now, he’s also one of the reasons that she’s standing up for herself in her romantic relationships.
“Wendy took the proper steps to get better not only for herself but for Little Kev, too,” an insider exclusively told In Touch. “I would say he is the source of her strength. Her top priority is her son and she only wants the best for him. She said it on her show this week — she has a whole new life planned for them. Now, Wendy will finally be happy.”
Recently, the Wendy Williams Show host had been looking worse for wear. On March 25, she was seen covering her face as she left the sober house — and her wedding ring was conspicuously missing. By April 10, she had filed divorce papers, and she served her husband with them by April 11. Since then, she’s seemed to be doing better, even joking about her divorce with guests like model and actress Christie Brinkley. The two made cracks about exchanging their divorce lawyers’ info backstage while discussing whether or not they’d ever want to get married again.
Now that Wendy’s husband has also been fired from the show, the atmosphere on set is a lot different, too. “It’s like a weight lifted off everyone’s shoulders,” an insider told Us Weekly. “Kevin’s toxicity was dragging everyone down … While the future is somewhat unclear, what is clear is that Wendy has a huge support system comprised of her staff, industry colleagues and family.”
