Welcome to Plathville’s Olivia Claims Ethan Was ‘Abusive’ Before Split: ‘People Saw Half of This on TV’

Welcome to Plathville star Olivia Plath dropped major allegations against her ex Ethan Plath, as she opened up about her experiences with “domestic violence and abuse” that allegedly took place prior to their split.

“About a year before I got divorced, I started journaling and writing down the things I was experiencing because I knew I wasn’t being treated well, and I literally wrote in one of my entries, ‘I think I might be experiencing abuse but I’m not sure because I didn’t have bruises,” Olivia, 26, said in a three-minute long video posted on Instagram on Thursday, March 27.

“I didn’t think people would believe me,” she explained. The reality TV personality went on to list numerous allegations that she said she “experienced” in her relationship that she considered “domestic abuse and violence.” However, she never addressed her ex by his name.

“He threatened to shoot my friends, that he called out by name, that he thought were influencing me to be more liberal and open-minded,” the photographer recounted. “The morning we broke up, he told me he was buying guns to restore order. Later, he told me, he never bought guns. He just did that to scare me.”

Olivia brought up a situation during filming after the pair began their divorce proceedings after announcing their split in 2023. The messy situation was filmed for season 6 of Welcome to Plathville, which aired on TLC from July to October 2024.

“People saw half of this on TV when I went back to Minnesota to get divorce papers signed, when he slammed a chair into the bar, which he slammed things like that and made himself very physically threatening,” she alleged. “But what was cut out and didn’t make it was him looking me in the eye and saying very low, very calm, ‘Be very careful what you say.’”

Olivia was immediately done after being “verbally threatened” and, when meeting with him, made sure that “there were cameras there for a reason.”

“He would back me into corners, he would cuss me out, he would spit on my face and anytime I threatened to call the cops on that, he say, ‘I didn’t hit you, you have nothing on me,’” she alleged.

Olivia and Ethan, 26, announced their plans to divorce after five years of marriage in October 2023. “Ethan and I have decided to go our separate ways,” she said in a statement at the time. “I have ambivalent memories of us being 18 years old, innocently dreaming of forever – but the partner you choose is a reflection of the world you want to live in, and at 18 I didn’t know who I was or what kind of life I wanted to create for myself. Seven years later, I’ve already begun my journey of questioning, deconstructing and rebuilding and I know that is a process that I will continue to prioritize throughout my life.”

The former couple filed for divorce in February 2024, and they listed their date of separation as February 25, 2023. Additionally, they cited the “irretrievable breakdown” of the marriage as the reason for their divorce.

However, In Touch exclusively revealed that their divorce was closed on April 26, 2024. The reason the filing was closed at the time was not revealed, though it was suspected to be a clerical issue.

Meanwhile, the divorce is still closed administratively and not refiled as of time of publication, In Touch can confirm.
