It’s been over a month since Netflix began streaming You starring Penn Badgley. While there’s only one season of the psychological thriller series so far, details regarding what will happen next in the plot have just been released … including the next female lead!
The Haunting of Hill House’s Victoria Pedretti is set to play Love Quinn. According to Deadline, “she’s an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store. Love is uninterested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief — and when she meets Joe Goldberg, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.”
If you haven’t finished the series, stop reading because there are spoilers ahead. Victoria will join the cast as Joe’s love interest after he seemingly killed his object of affection, Beck, who was played by Elizabeth Lail. At the moment, there’s no release date for when the show will come back, but we do know it will become a Netflix original starting with season 2, which will be set in LA. Originally, You premiered on Lifetime in September 2018. In December 2018, Netflix took over and added the first season to its streaming roster, which consisted of 10 episodes full of drama, thrills and nail-biting murders.
Penn plays Joe, a bookstore manager at Mooney’s, who immediately becomes obsessed with the blonde and beautiful Beck after she walks into the shop one day. Once he got her full name — Guinevere Beck — from her credit card while ringing her up, Joe goes into full-on stalker mode and finds her social media accounts and address.
Eventually, he becomes so consumed by this obsession, which he believes is love, that he takes extreme measures to distance anything or anyone that can get in the way of their relationship. Obviously, things don’t end well for Beck, who easily trusted Joe’s friendly and charming demeanor. The season finale concludes with someone from Joe’s past making an appearance, and now with Love Quinn thrown into the mix, it’s safe to say things are going to be more intense in season 2.
