For the 17th season of Dancing With the Stars, professional dancer Tony Dovolani will take In Touch readers along his incredible journey by providing a behind the scenes look at DWTS and reflecting on his performance. This week, he is talking about what it is like to work with his latest partner, Leah Remini and how she’s finally realizing that she could actually win it all!
Holy cow! It's week 10 and the semi-finals are so close, it's crazy. Leah has had an amazing transformation and more importantly the audience voting gave us a chance to transform her into a dancer. Last week she said, “I'm a contender,” and to hear her say it was awesome. It was scary for her to admit it, but she had an incredible quarterfinal and we're all very pleased we made it to the semi-finals.
Last week’s trio dance was amazing. It was a collaborative effort but largely Leah's idea. Everything fit and came together. Still I had to really work hard to portray Bruno! But after all these years of watching him it all finally made sense. It looked like we were having a blast and that's because we were. The fact that the judges also loved it and the score was fitting made it perfect.
However, Elizabeth Berkley being eliminated reminded us that no one is safe, regardless of ability or performance level. But at the same time I'm excited that the audience is sticking up for the non-dancers and allowing them to grow into dancers. So as shocking as Elizabeth's elimination was it speaks volumes to what the essence of our show is. I feel that Leah and Jack Osbourne are great examples of what happens to stars when you give them an opportunity to last long.
We dove right into this week with our two dances; a Paso Doble and Argentine tango. Leah’s showing the passion and I'm not slowing down. Every week Leah asks me to make the choreography easier and every week I make it harder. If you don't push it at this point when are you going to? We have two weeks and if you want to make the finals you have to push everything.
Tonight we find out who's going to the semi-finals, and that's pretty amazing. For me there are no losers at this point because if you've made it to the semi finals all you want is the opportunity to perform again and have the opportunity to see this season in its entirety.
It’s also exciting that Maks is judging! He is very vocal with his opinions and says what he thinks; sometimes it might rub someone the wrong way but I know that he's going to want to help the stars with constructive comments. Oh, and while there’s no bribing, he's a good friend so I did call and congratulate him.
Wish us luck!
