Fans may recall that Tom Cruise broke his ankle back in August while working on the sixth Mission: Impossible movie — and sources just claimed that the actor decided to recluse back to his homes in both Florida and London, as he works on his recovery.

“[Tom] hates for the public to see him when he’s not action-hero ready,” an insider told Life & Style. “He tried coming back from the injury too soon in September, and it was the wrong move.” The source added that the Jerry Maguire star has been “working with doctors and physical therapists.”

It’s been somewhat of a tough year on Tom, who tragically lost his mother, Mary Lee South, back in February. In Touch also exclusively revealed in June that he was blamed when The Mummy flopped in theaters. “People thought The Mummy was going to be a blockbuster, but it didn’t click with audiences. Tom had a very tight grip on production, and some people are saying that is what ruined the film — and possibly the future of the franchise,” said a source.

Two months later, the star found himself embroiled in a plane crash lawsuit, as helicopter stunt operator Alan Purwin and airman Carlos Berl were killed in 2015 when he worked on American Made. “[They’re] adding entire scenes and aerial shots on the fly. This has become the most insane s–t I’ve ever dealt with,” read court docs exclusively obtained by In Touch.

However, Tom did seem to find some good this year with is girlfriend, Vanessa Kirby. “He wants to make her the next Mrs. Tom Cruise,” a source previously revealed. “He’s blown her away with his endless charm and energy. He thinks she’s perfect to be his next wife. “His role as a husband and father is of the utmost importance to him. He can’t wait to be a family man all over again.”
