It seems like Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood won the first battle in her custody case against ex Andrew Glennon. According to Radar Online, the mother of two was awarded supervised visits with her son, James, on Thursday, July 25, after the no-contact order was lifted. Previously, the reality star’s ex had filed for sole custody of their son, though this new ruling is still in line with what he requested at the time. Amber, 29, and Andrew, 35, began their custody battle unofficially on the 4th of July after the couple allegedly got into a physical altercation, resulting in the police being called and the Teen Mom star getting arrested for domestic battery.

According to details that came out after Amber was released, she had allegedly tried to attack her then-boyfriend with her fists, a shoe and even a machete, though Amber claimed she never wielded the knife.

After the parents got into an argument about the roads being closed, Andrew told the authorities that he took their son, James, out for a car ride so that he could give Amber time to cool off.

When he returned, however, she was still upset — so much so that she “grabbed a shoe off the shoe rack and hit him with it” according to the Affidavit for Probable Cause obtained by The Ashley’s Reality Roundup.

Andrew was holding James at the time of the attack, and he claims he used his body to shield him. Later that night, Amber confronted Andrew again, telling him to put the baby down.

When he refused, the affidavit claimed “Ms. Portwood then threatened to kill herself. … [She] went to her drawer and took a handful of Klonopin.” After throwing them up, she allegedly became violent again, another claim that Amber denies.

“Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood picked up a machete,” the affidavit reads. “Mr. Glennon stated he locked himself and [the baby] into the office. … She hit the door with the machete and kicked the door and broke the handle.”

That was the moment when Andrew reached out to authorities, contacting 911. After that, he seemingly believed that Amber had put their child at risk while attempting to attack him.

Seeking Custody

On Tuesday, July 9, he filed for emergency custody of James. A week later, he filed for sole custody of his son, requesting Amber not be given unchaperoned visits.

Protecting James

Andrew wants sole legal custody, but he’s also fighting for primary physical custody. “Father believes that it is not currently in James’ best interests for Mother to have unsupervised parenting time,” read court documents obtained by Radar Online.

Call Out

“Father believes Mother is currently unable to provide a safe, stable and secure environment for James on an ongoing basis due to her frequent refusal and/or failure to take medicines prescribed to treat her mental-health conditions, among other concerns,” the documents continue.

Fighting Back

Amber isn’t taking the court battle lying down, however. Though Andrew asked for his ex to have supervised visits, the state didn’t agree. “DCS informed Father that they intended to file a Child in Need of Services case … that Father was not to permit Mother to have unsupervised contact with James,” read documents.

Parental Rights

Now, however, Amber has secured a court order that states she’s legally entitled to see James, even if it is with a chaperone. Against the state’s disagreements, a judge sided with the MTV star.

Visitation

The Clerk of Court for the Marion County Court in Indiana exclusively told Radar that the no-contact order protecting James from Amber had been lifted. “She has supervised visits only for the child,” they said.

Outlining Terms

Beyond that, the details still need to be worked out, and terms of visitation will be drawn up at a future hearing. However, Amber is still prohibited from seeing or speaking to her ex.

According to Radar, the couple will be back in court on Thursday, August 22, to continue ironing out custody. Luckily, Amber’s already gotten the chance to see James at least once. And with her costar’s supporting her, we know she’ll be strong enough to make it through this challenge.
