Tarek El Moussa is setting the record straight.
When news of his divorce from his Flip or Flop costar Christina El Moussa first broke, In Touch was one of many outlets that learned that cops were called after the father-of-two, 35, drew a gun because he learned that his wife was texting her now ex-boyfriend Gary Anderson while they were still married.
Now, Tarek has appeared on the Today show to tell his side of the story of what went down when he was caught with a gun — with police responding to an alleged suicidal man.
According to the interview, 911 was called to respond to a “call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun,” and when law enforcement arrived, they found Tarek in the woods around his house with a gun — but he insisted it was one big misunderstanding, as he was out hunting to “blow off some steam.”
“I went out for a hike to scout some trails, it wasn’t even a big deal. I didn’t understand,” he explained. “It got really blown out of proportion.”
When he was asked directly if he was suicidal, he said, “No, never, never, absolutely never.”
He added, “I was hiking in the mountains by myself. The sun was going to be going down soon. Why wouldn’t I go out with protection if I’ve legally gone through the courses to be able to do so?”
In Touch previously reported that Tarek’s marriage to Christina began to crumble after the incident in May, which a source explained was the result of the 35-year-old finding inappropriate texts between Christina and Gary, who was said to be present at the time of the incident.
Christina and Gary have since allegedly ended their relationship.
