Now we know why Stormy Daniels backtracked on her story about her 2006 affair with Donald Trump. Just weeks after In Touch published an explosive 5,000-word interview where the porn star shared all of the candid details about their affair, Stormy released an official statement that claimed she lied about the whole thing. But in an interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, she explained why she released the statement in January even though she had been telling the truth about the affair the entire time.

“Because they made it sound like I had no choice,” Stormy told Anderson on 60 Minutes, making it seem like she was forced to sign the statement by someone from Trump’s camp. Anderson tried to clarify, and Stormy said it wasn’t like someone had held a gun to her head or threatened physical violence if she hadn’t signed it but they did make it clear that she might suffer some sort of legal repercussion if she didn’t sign it.

“As a matter of fact, the exact sentence used was, ‘They can make your life hell in many different ways,'” Stormy said. When Anderson asked who “they” were, she said, ” I’m not exactly sure who they were. I believe it to be [Trump’s lawyer] Michael Cohen.”

Stormy’s original statement denying the affair was released to Jimmy Kimmel Live just hours before she was scheduled to appear on the show back in January, and host Jimmy Kimmel read it out loud: “To whom it may concern over the past few weeks I’ve been asked countless to comment on reports of an alleged sexual relationship I had with Donald Trump many many years ago. The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2017, now again in 2018. I am not denying this affair because I was paid hush money, as has been reported in overseas-owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened. I will add no further comment on this matter.”
